November 2002 trips

Nov 30, 2002 - Friday
Henniger

Vic, JP, Dean, and Karen took this one on at 10am. Dean and Karen are begginners, but they made it to the top with no problem. Victor broke his chain twice. Dean flew up the hill. We took it easy and stayed with Karen. This was Dean's second real hill climb since years ago. We were most impressed with Karen. This was her first climb and she rode up the whole way without hiking!
Injuries:none
Bike damage: Vic's chain.

Nov 29, 2002 - Thursday
Sugarloaf

JP, Joe, Sue, and Karen arrived as soon as Joe found the right offramp ;) Sue's tire blew out before the ride, but fortunately we had a spare. Sue is pretty new, and she doesn't like descents because she had previously crashed going down hill. She came around after a while and did great! Joe was great at climbing, and although Karen is just starting out, she is a natural at mountain biking. Karen and Joe pushed the envelope with some intermediate downhill riding. We did a few miles and had fun.
Injuries:none
Bike damage: Sue's front tire

Nov 24, 2002 - Tuesday
Sugarloaf

JP, getting over a bad flu and still suffering from bronchitis, rode this for the first time with the "over the bars mountain bike club". I (JP) could hang for a while, but then I couldn't breathe! These guys kicked my butt on thier "beginner" ride. We got to the bottom after over an hour, and I breathed a sigh of relief thinking that we were done. But noooo! Back up the mountain again! Thanks for showing me that I need a lot of endurance work! I'll ride with you guys again and try to keep up this time!
Injuries:none
Bike damage: none

Nov 2002
Turnbull Canyon

Big Ed was on a morning ride and ate it bad. Some of the injuries he sustained are as follows: Dislocated shoulder, facial abraisions, concussion, bruised lungs, fractured ribs(?), and a few more. When he didn't catch up, they went to look for him. They found him face down and unconscious. His trip meter says that his high speed was over 40mph on that trip, which is virtually impossible on that trail (lots of short runs between switchbacks). We wish you a full and speedy recovery Ed, and take it easy with the flying lessons!
